Overnight Sound is presented by Pamela Martinez / Teletextile and The Listener’s Gallery, UTSA’s MuTeFest run by Andrew Bergmann , Professor of Music Technology at USTA for Contemporary Art Month (CAM).  The event is an all night concert that highlights modern sonic arts from Saturday evening March 26 (6pm) until Sunday March 27 (8am) morning with the hours of 1a.m. - 6a.m. as music for sleep.  Overnight Sound will present 14 hours of continuous sound and music with the goal of creating a space where the listener can get lost in time, much like a meditation.  So that the listener’s brain readjusts to the expansiveness of time by being still and experiencing the changing environments of sound.  Similarly how a dreamer gives into a dream.

Martinez is known for her Sound Bath Meditations throughout Brooklyn, New York and San Antonio, TX.  During a sound bath one often falls into theta brain state between wake and sleep.  Having led people to this experience one hour at a time during the sound meditations, she thought why not do it all night long and hence came the idea for Overnight Sound: A Sonic Slumber Party with a 1a.m. Sound Bath Meditation.   During Overnight Sound people can listen for as long as they’d like, some and go as they’d like as long as they don’t disturb others.  This 14-hour-long, all-night musical extravaganza is inspired by a 24 hour performance called Drone Fest (Hudson, NY) which Pamela Martinez took part in where she led a Reiki Drone during which 5 practitioners gave Reiki to over 150 people in a 24 hour period.

The lineup of performers set to create this experience is quite extraordinary including sound artists from San Antonio, Los Angeles and Austin.  The San Antonio Ambient Orchestra will fill in the seams as the night oscillates between ambient guitarists, UTSA professors, experimental sound artists, harp, electronics and more.  It will be a rare and special occurrence and we are so excited to share it with you.

Performances by: Andrew Bergmann, The San Antonio Ambient Orchestra, Pamela Martinez / Teletextile, Justin Boyd, Xavier Gilmore, Romantic Thriller (LA), Andrea Vocab Sanderson, Mark McCoin with Christie Blizard, Nicole Cherry, Nayatara Devi (Austin), Glenn Alexander, Joseph Hogan, Jaime Ramirez, Wesley Uchiyama-Penix, Alison Fletcher, Derick Penrod, Eric Acuña, Brad Angotti, Hilary Rochow, Zach Sokoloski, Wesley Knaupp and more.
